LIVES IN ARCHIVES: Using archives at the State Records Office of Western Australia

Workshop - 11 and 12 February 2019

Lives in Archives is a 2 day workshop designed to provide skills to people who wish to research and understand archives, and in particular to gain knowledge of methods of access to the State Archives Collection held by the State Records Office of Western Australia (SRO). It will also explain how to critique this vital and unique material to gain meaningful interpretations of the past.

The workshop will be held over two days (Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 February 2019), commencing at 9.30-9.45am and finishing by 3pm each day.

Day 1 will include registration, introductions to the SRO, the State Archives Collection, a tour of SRO’s Search Room and ‘how to’ sessions on using the SRO’s online catalogue and requesting archival materials. Research methodology using State Archives as case studies will also be covered.

Day 2 will be more hands on and include research preparation and handling processes, referencing of archives, as well as some real-time research work using requested State Archives materials. It will include a short tour of SRO work and storage areas.

A more detailed program will be provided to registrants.
