In April 2017, Premier Mark McGowan announced the first round of Machinery of Government (MOG) changes to reduce 41 departments to 25, effective from 1 July 2017. This significant change resulted in agency amalgamations, transfer of functions and services, staff moving to other entities and, in some cases, agencies being abolished. The newly formed government organisations face the challenges of adapting to the changed functions and governance arrangements while responding to the Government's policy priorities and opportunities for better performance. In such time of significant change, government organisations must be cognisant of the need to preserve and protect the provenance and ownership of their recorded information and data.
